FAQ

Questions people may have before they submit.

What is Florida Hometown Heroes?

The Florida Hometown Heroes Housing Program provides eligible, income-qualified Florida homebuyers with down payment and closing cost assistance when purchasing a primary residence. Occupational, employment, income, loan, and other program requirements apply.

How much assistance may be available?

Current 2026 program information states that eligible borrowers may receive 5% of the total first mortgage loan amount, with a $10,000 minimum and $35,000 maximum, toward down payment and closing costs.

Is this a grant?

No. The assistance is a 0% interest, non-amortizing, 30-year deferred second mortgage. It is not forgivable and becomes due under specified events such as sale, refinance, transfer of deed, or when the property is no longer the borrower’s primary residence.

Do I have to be a first-time homebuyer?

The program generally serves first-time, income-qualified homebuyers. Military and veteran rules can differ depending on the borrower and program structure, so previous homeownership should be reviewed rather than assumed to be disqualifying.

Will this page check my credit?

No. Completing this preliminary review does not authorize a credit inquiry and is not a mortgage application.
